Our Biggest Project- the KITCHEN!

We had big plans for this baby. I was never a fan of oak cabinets which is what we got with this house, as well as the white/non-matching appliances.  So our first plans were to sell the white appliances, except for the fridge which acts as extra storage in our garage and get all stainless steel appliances. Jonathan totally scored with finding a microwave for $100 on craigslist, a dishwasher for $100 on craigslist, and a fridge for $400 on craigstlist. We didn't have as good of luck with an oven range until we saw an ad for less than $400 stainless steel range at best buy, so made our goal of getting new appliances for $1,000 and is such an improvement in our house, and all it takes is a little patience to find the sweet deals. Once the appliances were in, I hated the oak cabinets even more! They completely clashed with the stainless, so we went on with the next step- painting the cabinets white! My parents have a white kitchen and I just think its so bright and happy so we started the process, and it took a bit longer than expected, but in the end it was definetly worth it, and we have a total kitchen transformation!!

Before-

I find the oak to just have a dated look to it, but that's just a personal opinion

During-
We painted all of the drawers and sides of the cabinets with brushes

\
and took off all of the door fronts

I'm liking the difference already!

we had to clean all of the wood with a special cleaner before painting

Taking off more doors...

Then Jonathan & his Dad used a paint sprayer to get all of the door fronts done

the backs of the doors....
also, I didn't take any pictures of the part where we bought and put on handles for all of the drawers and cabinet doors, hope you like it!!

 and...AFTER-

So glad to have my beautiful kitchen!
To ad to Project-Kitchen, we decided to put up beadboard on the walls in the table area as well as swap out the plastic shingles over the sliding door for some tan curtains, so here is another {mini} before & after of that!

Before-

After-

[side-note] I got this "be thankful" sign at the DI for $1.00!! (originally $20.00  SCORE!)

I just love the beadboard look, I think it makes my kitchen a little more southern style/country kitchen. I'm so happy for the outcome, special thanks to my mom for fun ideas, and to my creative/handy/hardworking hubby who did basically everything!!
